I made this video the second I heard the news. Yes, it is a very big deal that Lebron James has chosen to join the Miami Heat. Still, the bigger deal is how he chose to announce his decision.
Simply put, he turned a simple announcement into an economic event. This is really, really smart and something each of us can apply to our own business efforts.

Excellent insight Alzay!
I could feel the excitement in your voice after discovering how Lebron wound up pulling off a killer Product Launch of himself. It’s fascinating that he could apply the very same launch marketing we know so well to himself in an environment that has no idea of what principles are going on. On top of it, he Joint Ventured with a bunch of sponsors to make even more money and a bigger splash with the news. Having the cameras on him for a whole hour opened up the interaction and dialogue in a way that made him look like a savvy businessman as well as a fellow guy just like the rest of us.
And to think I don’t even watch basketball….
I could go on for an hour (pun intended) talking with you about the great marketing that he implemented for his career but instead I’d encourage you to write a more in depth post of what we can learn from the marketing at play.
